late winter

It has been a crazy winter, both with our weather and how busy the kids have made life. This winter has consisted of wind - days and days of it, blowing between 60-85 mph. It's like being buffeted by a giant everytime we walk outside and everyone is SICK OF IT. At least the light is coming back...the light at the end of the wind tunnel.

I have to start with Nate's fifth birthday. We threw a party for him at Happy Hoppers - an inflatable gym nearby - and six of his friends attended. He wanted a PacMan cake, which Luke helped decorate. See his birthday song here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2nBVfj6VSY He's finished with hockey for this year and I uploaded a clip of him at the last practice playing foam tag. He's #8 Wright:

Grace is in the middle of Girl Scout cookie season, which has conflicted with every other part of life. The only weekend off this month from booth sales is the weekend we go to Soldotna for Luke's state hockey tournament. Her troop is also aiming for the Bronze award, which they must complete before heading to CA in May. They're organizing a Cache In, Trash Out, geocaching event at a local lake. Hopefully people will show up to clean up trash and locate the geocache the girls will place somewhere on the grounds. She also just finished basketball...but has been selected for Honor Choir which performs in late April. ( I was so happy when Battle of the Books ended, thinking I wouldn't be running around so much. Sigh.)

Luke had a nasty bout of stomach flu earlier this week, making him miss almost a week of school. He's decided not to go out for baseball - thank goodness for that!- and after the state hockey tournament later this month, he'll be able to concentrate on his grades and Mat-Su Youth Court. I'm hiring him out this summer, either to a local potato farmer or grocery store, so he can make some $$. Otherwise he'll be driving me crazy with all his pent-up energy. We celebrated his 15th birthday with a cake (and nothing else. teenagers are no fun.)
Roger will likely be heading to Saudi Arabia later this month to open a base for his company. He's thinking it'll take around six weeks, which puts us right before our trip to CA. Grace and I fly out May 6 and she'll cross the Golden Gate bridge with about 5,000 other girls and doing other fun stuff that first weekend; the guys join us May 12. I plan on visiting the redwoods, spending time at the beach, at Yosemite, and catching up with relatives and friends.
